My name is David Knight. I was born and raised in and around Dallas. I have always been interested in performing. I became interested in magic at 12 while reading a biography of Harry Houdini. I distinctly remember the moment that I decided I wanted to become a magician. My first “performance” was during a book report on Houdini. I had learned to escape from handcuffs and did that while delivering my presentation.
I spent high school being a part of both the Society of Young Magicians and the Dallas Magic Clubs. I was very blessed to have the guiding mentorship of some of the amazing local magicians – Dal Sanders, Brian O’Neill, Jeff Lee, Mark Roberts, Chuck Lehr, Rick Walker and more.
I moved away during college to travel with illusionist Andre Kole. He is most well known in magic circles as a creative consultant and inventor for the likes of David Copperfield, Siegfried & Roy, Lance Burton and many more. He is also an evangelist and became a mentor to me during the 3 years I had on the road with him. I mostly assisted with setting up the show and helping to keep things moving on and off stage.
While traveling with Andre, I met my wife Kylie as well as Kevin and Cindy Spencer. Kylie and I were very fortunate to be able to be a part of the Spencers’ road and office team. In addition to our roles as Illusion Manager and Production Assistant we were given the opportunity to perform a short spot during their show. That was a blast! We got to perform in front of crowds ranging from 500 to 5,000 in theaters all over the United States and all around the world.
We still consider Kevin and Cindy very good friends but felt it was time to move on to the next phase of our life. I’ll talk about that more next time.
